Kings Mountain Battlefield

Kings Mountain National Military Park preserves the site of the Battle of Kings Mountain, fought on October 7, 1780, during the American Revolutionary War, where Patriot militia forces defeated a Loyalist regiment commanded by Major Patrick Ferguson in an engagement that lasted just over an hour and significantly disrupted British operations in the Southern campaign; the preserved battlefield features wooded ridges, marked troop positions, and the prominent Kings Mountain Monument, allowing visitors to walk the original terrain, follow the interpretive trail outlining the course of the fighting, and examine the geographic features that influenced the outcome, all maintained by the National Park Service as part of ongoing historical preservation and public education efforts.
